The two most elaborate Barbie paper doll sets are Campsite at Lucky Lake from 1980 and Pink N Pretty Barbie from 1983 (which I will write about soon).
Lucky Lake, stock number 1836-41, is referred to as a playbook rather than just paper dolls themselves. It comes with two backdrops and cardstock punch-out pieces of furniture, animals and other items. The outside folder can be removed from its staples to set up the camping background (inside cover) or the 1977 GMC Star Traveler Motor Home (outside cover).
The dolls are paler versions of the 1979 Sun Lovin' Barbie and Skipper. Barbie wears her aqua bikini, while Skipper wears a pink version of her bikini, which looks more like a bra and underpants. The clothes are Whitman, not Mattel's, but they are very elaborate.
Lucky Lake sure has a lot of activities, as seen by the outfits. Not only hiking and making the campfire and swimming, but also golf, tennis, fishing, square dancing and even cricket! Barbie and Skipper had to drive in the Star Traveler to fit not only their camping equipment, but all those clothes!
Since Skipper is pointing to the campsite, I guess she wants to go back rather than start hiking. |
Not sure if the dolls are wearing underwear or the Sun Lovin' bikinis. |
This looks like a squished version of the much longer Star Traveler Motor Home. |
Barbie and Skipper need both a large motor home and a large tent when they go camping! |
Yes, this accessories page is right side up, even though the tree is upside down. |
I guess the Scottish tartan outfits and knickers are for playing golf? |
