April 15, 2007, Brothers & Sisters

Tonight's episode of Brothers & Sisters was the most surreal hour of drama I have ever seen. I felt almost like I was watching an alternate universe's version of the show, and it left me totally dumfounded, because
1. The Walkers, a Jewish family, celebrated Easter a week after the event, and both they and the Jones family served turkey for dinner.
2. It was delightful to see Susan Sullivan and Jenna Elfman together again, but not the roles they were playing as mother and daughter. Susan Sullivan will always be the original Kitty to me (not Calista Flockhart) and Jenna Elfman will always be Dharma, her daughter-in-law. I must say, though, that Jenna having long hair really softens her face and makes her look younger.
3. I had always dreamed of having sets of characters from several of my favorite TV shows all in the same series, but never expected it to happen. Everwood is my #2 favorite series of all time, and Dharma & Greg is one of my favorite comedies. If Richard Hatch or someone else from the one, the only, original Battlestar Galactica had walked onto the show at some point it wouldn't have surprised me.
4. Rob Lowe said "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."
5. The guy who played Rob Lowe's brother really looked like Rob Lowe, but why couldn't the writers have gotten Chad Lowe?
6. This episode had more people in it than I have seen in any program in a long time.
The episode was exhausting to watch and somewhat confusing. I'm still shaking my head. I actually felt a little disoriented when the show was over, because the whole thing just seemed a bit "off."

April 10, 2007, Danbarry on Tuesdays

Both first-run Showcase and second-run Danbarry have always had less expensive evening ticket prices on Tuesday. Danbarry’s regular price is $3.50, with $1.50 on Tuesdays. But just in the past week or two, the price has dropped on Tuesdays for a limited time to just $1. I have to wonder if Danbarry’s Tuesday attendance is dropping because of American Idol, and hopes that the 1970s price will bring more people back. Believe me, I’ve been going on Tuesdays for a while now, since I don’t watch AI.

April 9, 2007, watching TV show you don't like

Why would someone watch a TV show if he didn’t like it? And even more so, why would he tape the program so that he can watch it again to critique it in order to make fun of it?
I occasionally participate in the website Television Without Pity and am totally amazed at how many masochists that are out there who watch shows they don’t like simply so that they can complain about them and state that they wish they were cancelled. They also tend to intimidate the folks who do like whatever series that it is that is being discussed.
First of all, there are plenty of series I’ve seen in my lifetime that I watched a few episodes of (sometimes even just one episode), decided I didn’t like it, and then never watched it and never gave it a thought again.
I do have enough time to watch the programs that I enjoy. But I DO NOT have the time to watch shows I don’t enjoy, much less take the time to tear them apart. I do other things, like read, watch a movie or rerun, clean, exercise, or (gasp!) actually leave the house and go out in public (people still do that, you know).
I attempted to ask this question in TWoP at a section called Ask Tubey, but it was never posted. So I am writing this question here.

april 8, 2007, ion schedule

Ion has finally begun publishing its weekly TV schedule again. I don't care for the hourly grid format but it's better than nothing.
Believe me, I am planning to watch Battlestar Galactica on Ion on Sunday nights. I just hope that the network continues to show the episodes. I started watching The Monkees and The Partridge Family last fall on Friday evenings when it was still the I/Pax channel, and was very disappointed when the network discontinued the episodes after just a month. Their replacement programming for those two shows has been terrible and I haven't watched the channel since.

April 7, 2007, WCPO pre-emptions

I had originally attempted to send this to one of the Cincinnati media blogs, but it didn't get published. And several months ago when I made a similar complaint to the media blog that did get published, one of the other posters told the other readers to ignore me.
WCPO is the ABC affiliate in Cincinnati. It was the CBS affiliate for several years, and this ridiculous pre-emption business started at least 15 years ago when WCPO was still with CBS. I've never found an explanation as to why Channel 9 pre-empts more network programming than any of the other local stations. I can't imagine that WCPO's local ratings improve with the cheaply made nonsense that does get aired.

Wednesday, March 7, 8 p.m., a Franklin/Billy Graham special instead of George Lopez and Knights of Prosperity.
Friday, March 16, 8 p.m. Fighting for Life instead of Grey’s Anatomy.
Friday, March 16, 9 p.m., Everyday Freedom Heroes instead of Wife Swap.
Tuesday, March 20, 8 p.m., 10 Secrets to Healthy Living instead of America’s Funniest Home Videos.
Friday, March 30, 9 p.m., Pet Pads instead of Six Degrees.

I know that Fox 19 puts basketball games on in place of some of the Fox programming, but it doesn’t seem to be done to the extent that WCPO does this.
